A tip for oil painting, do your underpainting in the complementary color! When painting these red peppers, I used a green base to have the red on top really stand out and have intense saturation. I wish this had come to my attention earlier in my painting career because I've found the results to be very powerful. Allow the underpainting to dry thoroughly before moving on to the second and third layers.
